Sonoma State University (SSU) is one of the 11 existing universities that offer a credential in Adapted Physical Education (APE). The Adapted Physical Education Subject Matter Program is a CTC-approved program housed in the Department of Kinesiology at SSU. The APE program is one of several concentrations within the Kinesiology major. The APE coordinator directs the program, advises students in the concentration, and designs and implements APE coursework within the Kinesiology major. The SSU Credential programs (including the Single Subject, Multiple Subjects and now the Educational Specialist programs) are housed in the School of Education. The APE Coordinator collaborates closely with the faculty in the Special Education Department regarding coursework within the Special Education Department that is part of the APE Subject Matter Program. Note: The APE program is currently transitioning to new standards.
