Faculty are qualified and model best professional practices in scholarship, service, and teaching, including the assessment of their own effectiveness as related to candidate performance; they also collaborate with colleagues in the disciplines and schools. The unit systematically evaluates faculty performance and facilitates professional development.
Faculty members are highly qualified to perform their duties as defined by the mission statements of the University, School of Education, and by MOU contract (Table 5.3.a). During the Fall Spring 2011 semester, the School of Education employed 17 tenure/tenure-track faculty and 36 adjunct faculty (lecturers and part time faculty). The SOE has not been able to replace the nine tenure/tenured track faculty it lost, since the last review. This situation has been brought about by the budget cuts in the CSU system. The unit has ensured that the quality of the program has been maintained, and faculty have been committed and worked hard to maintain quality and high morale. In the 2010-11 academic year two new tenure track faculty were hired. One is joining us this year; the other joins us in the 2012-2013 school year.

Faculty in the School Counseling and Adapted Physical Education programs are not a part of the
School of Education but are members of the Counseling Department in the School of Social Science and the Kinesiology Department in the School of Science and Technology, respectively. Two tenure/tenure-track faculty in the Counseling Department teach in the counseling degree and credential program, and one faculty member in Kinesiology teaches the Adapted PE Program. In order to qualify for a tenure-track position on the Sonoma State University faculty, a candidate must hold a doctorate in the appropriate discipline. As documented on faculty vitae (Faculty Directory)100% of School of Education tenure/tenure-track faculty hold an earned doctorate. All adjunct faculty have a Masters Degree, some hold doctoral degrees, and others have special qualifications (e.g., extensive bilingual education, experience with technology, service learning or special education expertise).
