School of Education Endowments

The F. George Elliott Scholarship Fund

The F. George Elliott Scholarship Fund is an endowment of over $250,000 to the Sonoma State University School of Education. The endowment each year will award two scholarships for graduate study at Sonoma State University; one is for an outstanding student teacher, and the other is for a Santa Rosa City School middle school, junior high, or high school teacher. Recipients of these scholarships will be known as Elliott Scholars.

Professor George Elliott worked for many years supervising student teachers in middle schools and junior and senior high schools in the Santa Rosa City School District. He was dedicated to quality teacher education, and worked closely with many master teachers and school administrators in Santa Rosa schools to achieve that end. This scholarship is his legacy to the middle level, junior high, and senior high teachers of the Santa Rosa City School District.

H. Andrea Neves and Barton Evans Endowment Fund

Social justice is at the heart of a $250,000 endowment made to Sonoma State University recently by a couple who hopes the gift will spur others to donate "to nudge the University in the direction they would like to see it go."

SSU professor Andrea Neves and her husband Bart Evans are longtime supporters of programs in education, including the building of classrooms in Africa.

This endowment fund supports the H. Andrea Neves and Barton Evans Social Justice Lecture Series at Sonoma State University, a joint venture of the School of Social Sciences and the School of Education.
