On the Romance between Curriculum and Assessment Project
(a.k.a. Romance): Dr. Ayala working with colleagues at Stanford, UC
Berkeley, UCLA and U of Hawaii, are completing an education experiment
to investigate the effects of the use of formative assessments and feedback.
Dr. Ayala headed the development of the formative assessments and some
of the outcome measures and trained the teachers in the use of formative
assessments and feedback. Study includes 3 prototype teachers, 6 randomly
selected experimental teachers, 6 control group teachers, and approximately
1300 students.
Scaling Up Grant and Project: Dr. Ayala along with colleagues from
the University of Hawaii’s Curriculum Research and Development
Group CRDG have been award a multi-year National Science Foundation
grant to study the effects of three different professional development
models on both teacher and student outcomes variables. Dr. Ayala is
in charge of the student outcome measures.
