Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting: Introduction
Dr. Erma Jean Sims,
Sonoma State University
My name is Dr. Erma Jean Sims. I'm a faculty member in the School of Education at Sonoma State University. I also hold a Juris Doctor degree in Law. It is important that teachers understand their legal, ethical, and professional obligations in an educational setting. This legal session will focus on mandatory child abuse reporting in schools and classrooms. Teachers in the state of California are legally responsible for abiding by the California law and the federal law that pertains to mandatory child abuse reporting. Non-compliance with these laws can result in liability to you and to the school district to which you are employed.
