New Faculty
Heather Brace
Heather Brace is the new Assistant Professor in the Educational Leadership and Special Education Department. She recently came from the University of South Florida where she worked as an Undergraduate Instructor and Project Coordinator. Heather received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Special Education, both from the University of Florida (GO GATORS!). Currently ABD, she is working on her dissertation which focuses on the lived experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse caregivers who have raised a child with Autism. Heather moved to California with her two chihuahuas, Bailey and Brody.
Susan Campbell
The Department of Literacy Studies and Elementary Education welcomed new faculty member Dr. Susan Campbell as Assistant Professor of Social Studies Education in Fall 2008. Susan has lived in El Cerrito, CA for the last 20 years and commutes to Sonoma. Prior to coming to Sonoma Susan was a lecturer in the School of Education at UC Davis. She earned her degree at U.C. Davis in 2006, with emphases in thinking critically about history and using literature to make history meaningful in the elementary classroom. Susan has one daughter and a dog, a collie.
Viki Montera
Dr. Viki Montera joined the faculty of the Educational Leadership and Special Education in Fall 2008. Viki comes to SSU after a career as a K-12 teacher, union leader, and school principal. She directed the Education and Community Change Project at the University of Arizona while completing her doctoral degree and worked as a consultant with the Small Schools Project in Seattle, WA based at the University of WA. Most recently, Dr. Montera taught in the MA Teacher Inquiry program and the doctoral program at University of CA: Davis. She was also the founding director of the Undergraduate Program in the School of Education. Her research focuses on school reform, the politics of the profession, collaborative learning communities, and the school-community relationship. A native Coloradoan, she also loves to snow ski, run and play the saxophone when no one is at home.
