Student PlacementsField experiences in public school classrooms are an essential component of the teacher preparation programs at Sonoma State University. In both the participation/ observation and the student teaching semesters, the credential candidates have opportunities to make connections between theories and best practices learned in their coursework and the realities of classroom life. During their last phase of the credential program, the candidate’s involvement in the school culminates in student teaching, when the full responsibilities of a classroom teacher are assumed. The multiple subject, single subject, and special education programs at Sonoma State University maintain a strong commitment to collaborating with K-12 partners in our service area. Field placements are made in schools where there are strong mentor teachers and a diverse population of students. Before placements are finalized, all credential students must submit the required documentation to the Credentials Office. Contact their office if you have questions regarding the requirements for participant observation and student teaching. Students may not contact school personnel to arrange their own participation
or student teaching placements. The process for requesting a field
