The drinking water provided to the Sonoma State University Campus Community is tested regularly in conformance with strict standards established by the State of California Department of Health Services and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The annual report provides a detailed list of these standards and their respective analytical results. The report shows that the water provided to Sonoma State University is of high quality, meeting or far exceeding established standards.

1995 Annual Water Quality Report

Facilities Services at Sonoma State University is dedicated to providing a safe and reliable supply of high quality drinking water. The water available to you, the Campus Community, not only meets, but surpasses State and Federal standards for quality and safety. As required by the Federal Safe Water Drinking Act, all public water supplies in California must meet stringent quality standards set by the State Department of Health Services and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In California, drinking water standards (also known as Maximum Contaminant Levels or MCL's) are set in to two categories. Primary standards relate to public health and secondary standards relate to aesthetic qualities such as taste, odor, and color. As part of this report, you will find a complete listing of both types of standards and the respective analytical results for the tests conducted on the drinking water supplied to the Campus Community.

For additional information regarding this report, please contact Thomas Sargent, Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, (707) 664-4003.

Explanation of Terms

average Average value calculated over reporting year. Where water monitoring requirements for specific parameters occur less than once per year, the most current maximum value will be indicated.

mg/L milligrams per liter (parts per million)

MCL Maximum Contaminant Level.

ND None Detected. Constituent not detected above laboratory method detection limit. Detection limits are typically several times lower than established MCL's (e.g. the MCL for ethylbenzene is 0.68 mg/L and the detection limit is 0.005 mg/L).

NT Not Tested (requirement waived per Department of Health Services Office of Drinking Water).

NTU Nephelometric Turbidity Units

pCi/L pico Curies per liter

range The minimum and maximum values occurring during reporting year. Where water monitoring requirements occur less than once per year, the most current minimum and maximum values for each water source will be indicated.
