New Shakespeares The Sixteenth Annual CSU Shakespeare Symposium April 26, 2008 Sonoma State University |
CALL FOR PAPERS |
|
The last decade has witnessed the emergence of a variety of new approaches to the study of Shakespeare. These new approaches lack the theoretical coherence of the feminist, cultural materialist and new historicist movements in the 1980s, but in the long run, they may prove to have a more significant impact on our understanding of Shakespeare and the cultural and historical influence his texts have exercised. The Sixteenth CSU Shakespeare Symposium seeks to bring together scholars and students interested in exploring these new ways of looking at Shakespeare in an attempt to broaden our understanding of what they have in common with each other, as well as how they depart company with older, more established readings of Shakespeare. We invite papers on any of the topics listed below; we are also interested in critical assessments of any or all of these approaches. |

Please send a short abstract of 100-200 words to jkunat@yahoo.com. The deadline for abstracts is March 29, 2008. The symposium will be held in conjunction with an on-campus performance of Romeo and Juliet and Westside Story. Readings that include or focus on either play are particularly welcome. For those who plan to fly into either Oakland Airport or SFO, we have arranged free ground transportation to the conference. Relatively low-cost accommodations near Sonoma State are also available for the nights of April 25th and 26th. |
