HOW TO ADD A CLASS THAT IS CURRENTLY FULL

  1. You should try to attend the first class meeting.  Ask the professor at the first meeting if they plan on taking a wait list for the class.

A.  If they say no, keep trying to add the course on PeopleSoft with the hope that someone will drop the course.  You will have to be very persistent and patient.  Try as often as you can. If someone drops a course on-line and you are the next person to try adding that course, you will get in.

B. If they say yes, find out how they are ranking the students on the list.  The lower your ranking, the lower your chances will be of getting into the class—it also partly depends on how many students drop the course*.  EVEN IF AN INSTRUCTOR TAKES A WAIT LIST AND IS WILLING TO INCREASE ENROLLMENT, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THEY CAN MAKE A SPACE FOR YOU IN THE CLASS!

*Sometimes instructors will give preference to seniors or English majors if the course is an upper division major course.

Once on the wait list, you will need to wait until you receive a permission code from the instructor. Please do NOT call the English Dept. office for this code.  Remember, Wednesday, Sept. 8 th is the last day to add or drop a class on-line.

IMPORTANT:  Please remember that the instructor cannot actually register you into the class!  Only YOU can register yourself.  What the instructor does by taking a wait list is to control who gets into the class, after other students drop the course.  The instructor is giving you permission to add a restricted course; they are NOT actually registering you into the course.
