EXCEL offers interactive summer classes in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math – S.T.E.A.M. – on the campus of Sonoma State University.
EXCEL is a unique summer academic enrichment program that offers students entering grades 4-9 accelerated one and two-week classes.
EXCEL is distinctively focused towards fostering and developing essential 21st Century and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration in a hands-on, interactive, fun campus environment!
EXCEL, an award winning program, will celebrate its 35th year this summer at Sonoma State, and has served over 23,000 students since 1982.

One-two week classes take place on the campus of SSU and use the school's specialized arts, science, and technology labs, as well as providing guest speakers and field trips. Exceptional mentor teachers include university faculty, professionals from specialized fields, and teachers from area districts who design classes to capitalize on each student's interest, creativity, and curiosity. For students staying all day, there is a supervised 45 min "lunch bunch" at no additional charge.
Awards and Recognition
EXCEL has been honored by the State of California with an Assembly Resolution presented by then Assemblyman Jared Huffman for our years of outstanding contributions to education, and is listed by Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth programs for gifted students.
