New Classroom/Laboratory/Office Facilities Comments and Responses

1. The proposal represents new locations for these facilities from the current and previous master plans, and is an improvement over those plans.

2. The Master Plan Revision needs to address the relationship between the New Classroom Facilities, the University Center, and existing and possible science facilities south of Darwin Hall. For example, what would happen if the University Center replaces existing facilities south of Darwin, but the New Classroom Facilities aren't built?

3. Excellent site location in relationship to University Center, existing Darwin biological science facility and campus core.

4. It is important that development of the New Classroom Facilities do not disrupt the boulevard entrance design of the campus' South Entrance.

5. Your designs and placements with their specific uses so vague that they only say, "More instructional space is needed," create an illusion without substance. Thus, planning fits growth only; it does not complement education.

6. Will increased FTE result in increased class size?

7. Why don't we locate new classrooms by new parking?

8. Will there be "daylighting" and solar architecture used in the new buildings?

Implementation:

1. The proposed Master Plan Revision, at buildout, would accommodate 10,000 FTE ("full time equivalent") students. Do the New Classroom Facilities only become necessary if SSU enrollment exceeds 7,000 FTE, with up to 7,000 FTE able to be accommodated with the conversion of Salazar Library to classroom, etc., uses? If so, when, and under what circumstances, would the New Classroom Facilities be needed (i.e., when would enrollment grow to more than 7,000 FTE)?
