Open Space

Open space, both natural and built, is a crucial component of the Master Plan. The Master Plan Revision has potentially important implications for the system of open spaces on campus.

Issue 12: Strengthen existing and proposed quadrangles.

Proposed design responses:

  • Use pedestrian circulation system to improve quads.
  • Use landscaping to improve quads (e.g., trees to reinforce edges of quads and help unify them, while reducing the scale of some overly large existing spaces).

Issue 13: Maintain and improve Copeland Creek area.

Proposed design responses:

  • Respect biotic and aesthetic values of Copeland Creek and the surrounding riparian area, improving pedestrian and bicycle access in an appropriate manner.
