SSU Master Plan Revision

Pedestrian Circulation Comments and Responses1. Will the existing drainage problems in the landscaping south of Ives Hall be addressed? 2. Will there be improvements to the pathways into campus from the parking lots southeast of Ives Hall? Issues include safety and whether or not the paths are inviting.
3. The very general outline of issues 7 ("Create an easily understandable pedestrian circulation system, linking the precincts of campus") & 8 ("Create effective pedestrian access to Information Center") are quite good, but this needs greater detail to make an intelligent, informed, and specific response. 4. Emphasis is on North-South central axis; ignores East-West central axis (from Housing through Shultz Center, then Stevenson-Darwin Quad, Salazar, and Gym. 5. Should retain, as much as possible, the look and feel of the current pedestrian thoroughfares, which encourage "strolling" rather than urban power-walking! 6. I feel it is important to have pedestrian pathways from the south parking lots to the center of campus so it doesn't feel like parking is so far away from classrooms. 7. I feel it is important to have pathways that are large enough for both pedestrians and bikes, as was stated during the [3/30/99 Master Plan Revision public workshop]. 8. I concur with the idea to repave existing walkways to make them flat and even. It would be nice if this could happen as soon as possible. 9. The architects present at the 3/30/99 Master Plan Revision public workshop mentioned that they plan to have the walkways leading to the north parking lots very well lit. I, too, feel this is very important. Perhaps a police kiosk in the area of the lakes would be good idea to make the paths even safer. 10. [Regarding campus signage]. The new tactile signs going up on the buildings look very nice and are a great improvement. Please also consider putting better directional signs around campus, especially within Darwin & Stevenson where it is almost impossible to find a classroom without previous knowledge of the building. The entrance signage is also lacking in aesthetics and should be replaced. 11. In order to promote bicycle commuting to campus, provide sheltered bicycle storage. 12. Improve existing bicycle paths. 13. Create more convenient bicycle entrances (e.g., off of East Cotati) 14. Make bike and pedestrian paths safer to promote use. 15. Improve paved paths for wheelchairs. 16. Address wheelchair circulation in bad weather. 17. Develop an access map of the campus for disabled. 18. There are concerns for pedestrian safety getting from the new north parking lot to the Music Center across the proposed new North Entry roadway. 19. Create inviting pathways from parking lots. 20. Would creating a "campus core" that is pedestrian oriented and largely auto-free affect the ability to get from one class to another on time, especially for the disabled? 21. Access to the dorms will be south and west and northwest separated by parking lots and the RSL Learning Center. a. How will this better link the two and provide a better orientation
to the campus? 22. Integrate the bicycle and pedestrian paths with Rohnert Park and Cotati general plans. 23. Consider flood zones when placing pedestrian and bicycle paths on Copeland Creek. 24. There should be connections from the creek crossings to the campus core.
