When to Apply

A rose from the Rose Garden

You can apply starting January 1 of every year for the following academic year you will be attending.

Apply Early

Apply as early as you can. Earlier applications can mean more money for you. You can apply before your taxes for the previous year have been filed, and should estimate as close as possible. You will need to make corrections later if you estimated. However, it is to your benefit to apply early because even if you make corrections, the original application date is the one that is used in determining what funds you will be awarded.

The Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loan Programs are available to all students who meet established eligibility criteria, regardless of your FAFSA application date. However, other federal and state financial aid programs are not as plentiful and are therefore awarded on a "first come, first served" basis.

The best way to assure access to all funds for which you may be eligible is to apply early, as soon as possible beginning January 1.
