Middle Class Scholarship (MCS) Award Timeline

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) intends to notify potential recipients of the Middle Class Scholarship (MCS) of their tentative award amounts on September 15, 2014.

If you already have a WebGrants4Students (WGS) account, you should be able to view award information on September 15, 2014 at www.webgrants4students.org. If you haven’t already created an WGS account, as long as CSAC has your 14-15 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or CA Dream Application information on file, you will be able to create an account at www.webgrants4students.org.

Remember, MCS awards are intended to assist students who are not eligible for federal and state need-based grant programs like the Federal Pell Grant, the State University Grant, and the Cal Grant. Recipients of federal and state need-based grant programs will have their eligibility for MCS reduced. Also, if additional grant information has been entered into our system since the time we first reported your eligibility information to CSAC, you might not be eligible for an MCS even if you receive notification of an award from CSAC. SSU Financial Aid Office will inform students who are not eligible for their tentative MCS award by email.

Also, to be considered for MCS, a student had to complete the 2014-15 FAFSA or CA Dream Application by CSAC’s deadline. For this first year, the deadline was in June, but in the future the deadline will be March 2 each year. Only students with family incomes of $150,000 or less were considered for MCS.

Although students will receive notice of MCS tentative awards on September 15, 2014, schools will not receive award information from CSAC until September 22, 2014. Due to our system processing requirements, we expect to disburse MCS awards around October 13, 2014.
