Middle Class Scholarship Eligibility Review and Disbursement Timeline for Fall 2016

If you have been notified by the California Student Aid Commission that you may be eligible for a Middle Class Scholarship, congratulations and we must ask for your patience while we review eligibility and prepare for disbursement of the funds.

Based on the timeline given to us by the California Student Aid Commission for their readiness to transfer the Middle Class Scholarship funds to schools, we expect to disburse the funds for Fall semester on or after October 17, 2016.

If preparations go faster than expected and the disbursement timeline moves up, we will notify Middle Class Scholarship candidates by email to their SSU email account.

Updated Drop In Counseling Availability For August and September

Due to two staff promotions, it is necessary for the Financial Aid Office to modify our Drop In Counseling availability while we hire two new Financial Aid Representatives. For August and September, Drop In Counseling will be available from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Exception: During the first four Wednesdays of the Fall semester, evening Drop In hours will be offered from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. On those Wednesdays, Drop In Counseling is not available from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The dates for evening hours are 08/24/2016, 08/31/2016, 09/7/2016, and 09/14/2016.

Many questions can be answered through emailing your Financial Aid Representative instead of coming to Drop In Counseling. For some complex issues like review of special circumstances requests, Lack of Progress or Excessive Units appeals, and independence determinations, a phone or in person appointment may be recommended by your Representative. Visit the Contact Us Us page for the Alpha Sections and email addresses of the Representatives.

Avoid FAFSA Scams

Filing the FAFSA is FREE. There are companies that may solicit payment from you to file the FAFSA on your behalf, but in most cases this is a waste of your money. If you are asked to give a credit card number or make any kind of payment to complete or file the FAFSA, beware. More information on filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid can be found in our How to Apply section of our website.
