Located in 1032 Stevenson, next to the Audio Facility, the Modern Languages
& Literatures Faculty Resource Space (FRS) is intended to be a convenient
workspace for SSU faculty to create instructional materials for modern
language courses. The FRS contains the following equipment:
- 1 work table and chairs;
- 1 media converter (analog ‡ DV digital hard codec box);
- 1 multistandard (PAL/SECAM/NTSC/PAL-M/PAL-N/NTSC4.43) video tape
player-recorder;
- 1 computer work station (NOT Mac, a Dell Optiplex GX100 with Pentium
III) with Internet access and web browser and email capabilities. The
computer is equipped with a 100/250 Zip drive and a DVD/CD-Rom drive.
The computer is connected to a black & white laser printer in Stevenson
1040.
The computer in Stevenson 1032 is loaded with the following software:

sites)

- PowerPoint (presentation application)
- Access (database application)
- Microsoft Outlook (e-mail)
- Netscape Communicator (web browser)
- Quicktime 5 (for creating, playing, and streaming digital media)
- Realplayer (application to build, manage, and play digital music
files)
- Sound Blaster Live! (audio mixing program)
- Vega Video LE (digital video editing program)
- WS FTP (file transfer client)
- Windows Media Player 7.1 (digital media player, can be used to play
video and radio from around the world)
- Win DVD (InterVideo) (DVD player)
- WinZip 8.0
The FRS is available to all full-time and part-time faculty in the Department
of Modern Languages & Literatures at SSU. To schedule use of the FRS,

A collection of recent research in language pedagogy, applied linguistics,
second-language acquisition (SLA), and educational technology is housed
in the Faculty Resource Space. Copies of selected articles and reports
in these areas are available upon request. Materials can be checked out
for 1 week or can be duplicated (please allow 3 days). Please contact
Robert Train regarding the
use of these materials.
