RE: Freshman Seminar and GE Reform

You are probably aware that Sonoma State faculty and ESAS staff have been working on a new Freshman Seminar, the first part of a larger project to reform our General Education program. Currently, the Academic Senate is considering a proposal to conduct a pilot of this new Freshman Seminar currently designated "First Class." This seminar and the overall GE reform path is described in more detail in the GE Initiative power point presentation and the "Whole University" pdf.

Contingent upon the Senate recommending that the pilot go forward in the Fall 2005 semester, we are putting out the call for the position of FYE Coordinator and for faculty to form the interdisciplinary team to deliver the course and design the specific content for this course.

Faculty members interested in either the coordinator or instructor positions should submit electronically a letter of interest which articulates the applicant's qualifications, as well as a CV, to Cynthia Jowers at cynthia.jowers@sonoma.edu. Applications are due via email by 4:30 pm, Friday, March 25.

These positions are contingent upon approval of the FYE Pilot and availability of funding of the FYE "First Class" Pilot. The two attachments describe the positions and eligibility requirements in detail. (See below for the attached pdfs.)

Questions regarding the pilot project and the positions may be directed to:

Elaine Sundberg elaine.sundberg@sonoma.edu

Paul Draper paul.draper@sonoma.edu

Thank you for your serious consideration of this exciting new academic initiative.
