GEOG 205: Introduction to Map Reading and Map Interpretation (1 unit)
This course introduces you to mapping fundamentals such as map projections and reference systems, scale concepts, coordinate systems, air photo interpretation, and topographic maps. This course is required for entry into GEOG 380: Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing, GEOG 385: Computer Cartography, and GEOG 387: Introduction to Geographic Information Systems. No prerequisites.

This class meets the following objectives within the Geography Major:
#4. Use maps and other geographic representations, tools, and technologies to acquire, analyze, and report information from a spatial perspective
#5. Understand how geospatial technology and procedures can be used for geographic inquiry and analysis
Course Materials
- Lab manual: Available at The College Copy Shop, 1460 East Cotati Ave
West from campus on East Cotati Ave. In the shopping center with Dominos Pizza and ATA Tae Kwondo.
Be sure to purchase it during the first week of class and bring it every week. The first set of readings MUST be completed before the second class session. Several sections also have associated readings that must be done before class meets

Grading
Each of the four class segments is worth 25% of your grade. The course may be taken for a letter grade only. Attendance is required!! You will not be allowed to pass the class if you do not attend and participate in all sessions
