Map Library

Paper Maps
The Geography Departrment maintains a fairly extensive collection of conventional maps. The collection is mostly of northern California, but other national and international areas are also represented. The Map Library is located in Stevenson Hall, Room 3057. Hours vary, but generally we are open during Fall and Spring Semesters for most of the hours between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

The map collection includes:

  • USGS Topographic Maps (Paper)
  • 1:24,000 (7 1/2-minute) for most of California and parts of nearby states
  • 1:62,500 (15-minute) for most of California and parts of other states
  • 1:100,000 (30' by 1 degree) for certain areas
  • 1:250,000 (1 by 2 degree) for most of California

Other Topographic Map Series (Paper)

  • Army Map Service (AMS/DMA) maps at 1:25,000 and 1:50,000

Thematic Maps (Paper)

  • Geologic maps
  • Land-use maps
  • National Geographic Society maps
  • Nautical charts

Wall (Roll-up)

  • Maps for many world regions and historical periods

Wall Maps
The Geography Department's Map Library has a wide variety of wall maps representing all world regions, and many themes from natural resources to population and economics. Only a portion of the maps (indicated with the highlight) are indexed through this list. For a complete index, please see the paper index available in the Map Library, Stevenson 3032. Wall maps are available for check-out to faculty, and may be loaned to students for short periods with appropriate ID (bring your Drivers License or State ID Card).

Aerial Photographs
Aerial Photograph Collection SSU maintains a collection of aerial photographs of Sonoma County and selected other areas. The Map Library is located in Stevenson Hall, Room 3032. Hours vary, but generally we are open during Fall and Spring Semesters for most of the hours between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The air photo collection includes: Sonoma County coverages from 1942, 1952, and 1968.
