Internships in History
All history majors are encouraged to consider an internship
in history as part of their undergraduate study, especially if they are
thinking about teaching history in the public schools or a career in public
history. These on-the-job positions offer valuable learning experiences
and sometimes lead to job offers and career choices. Internship positions
are available at local middle and high schools, museums, historical societies,
state parks, county agencies and non-profit organizations and may be arranged
for academic credit towards the B.A. Some agencies also offer paid internships.
For information about undergraduate history internships, contact Professor
Stephen Bittner, Stevenson Hall 2070M, 664-2447. For information about
graduate history internships, contact Professor
Kathleen Noonan, Stevenson Hall 2070L, 664-2959.
The Donaldson Scholarship
Thanks to the generosity of the Donaldson family, the
Sonoma State University History Department has funds to award a scholarship
to history majors who are enrolled in a history internship at a local
school, government agency or non-profit organization. Applications and
information on the Donaldson Scholarship are available from Professor
Michelle Jolly, History Department, Stevenson Hall 2070K. Applications
are accepted at the beginning of each semester.
