Timothy Smith, B.A. Political Science, 1976
Mr. Smith was born and raised in Marin County and graduated from Terra Linda High School. He served in Vietnam from 1970-1972 as a radioman in the U.S. Navy. After graduation from Sonoma State, he began public service as an administrative assistant to then State Congressman Doug Bosco and continued as district director when Bosco was elected as 1st District United States Congressman. He was elected to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in 1988 and was reelected in the 2000 March primary election to his fourth four-year term. Mr. Smith has participated in the development of major public policy related to health and human services, fiscal responsibility and the environment. Mr. Smith was elected and is currently President of the California State Association of Counties, a statewide group composed of all 58 California counties and one of the most important organizations of local governments in the nation. Mr. Smith’s youngest daughter recently graduated from SSU.
