2007 Alumni Community Achievement Award Barbara and Jacques Schlumberger B.A. Psychology, 1991 and B.A. Physics, 1982
The Schlumbergers are very involved in the Sonoma County beekeeping community and support biodynamic beekeeping methods, which involve alternative practices for obtaining queen bees and caring for the bees during the winter. The sustainable beekeeping methods are based on the idea of maintaining the characteristics of the bee community as it has evolved to function in nature. Just Beeing is the couple's line of honey products. The Schlumbergers are also longtime supporters of the Santa Rosa Symphony, and they both have served on its board. The Schlumbergers have helped develop the shared vision between SSU and the Santa Rosa Symphony to create the Green Music Center, which will be a world-class choral and symphonic concert hall located on the SSU campus in Rohnert Park. Jacques Schlumberger, influenced by a 400-year family tradition of growing grapes and making wine in the Alsace region of France, is a respected Sonoma County vintner, and his Michel-Schlumberger Winery, of which he is president and majority partner, specializes in producing small lots of high quality, award-winning wine. Barbara maintains psychotherapy practice in Santa Rosa.
