POWER is a series of workshops and educational resources aimed at increasing students awareness of living off-campus in the local community. Housing Services, Office of Residential Life, and the Center for Student Leadership, Involvement and Service collaboratively will be offering a variety of informational and interactive sessions to students exploring the tools needed to be a successful tenant and good neighbor. Participation in each category will provide the students with a Seawolf Good Neighbor certificate. This certificate will help give students the edge they need when trying to secure off-campus housing accommodations. Descriptions and tentative dates and locations are listed below.
This informational session will include basic information about how to get started, requirements, understanding lease agreements, and your rights as a tenant. A panel of local property managers will share their practices and the best way to find your next home. SSU will also provide some information about the importance of inspecting facilities and Meghan's Law.
This series of workshops will focus on learning about what is involved with becoming good neighbors. Understanding city and county ordinances regarding areas such as noise, parties, and parking will be covered. In addition, hear from student leaders who have successfully developed good relations with their Rohnert Park and Cotati neighbors. They will share their strategies for creating positive interactions based on respect, trust and friendships.
This category will provide students with resources and tools for managing and maintaining healthy living environments in off-campus accommodations. Choosing the right roommates, conflict resolution, and cooperatively living are some of the areas to be explored.
Everything you need to know about life's basics: time-management, balancing finances, stress management, staying involved with campus, living sustainably---just a few of the many options that will be available to students. Presentations will include student organization involvement and student panels.
This online module (#14) will help teach students about the skills needed to live responsibly in an off-campus community. This is the last category that students will need to complete in order to receive their "Seawolf Good Neighbor Certificate".
