Pre-Credential Subject
Concentration Courses

For Students Seeking the Multiple Subject Waiver at the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies

Effective: Fall Semester, 2000

Multiple subject waiver students beginning work in the upper division of Hutchins School on or after September 1, 1991 will need to complete one of the "concentrations" listed on this sheet as part of the academic preparation required for the elementary teaching credential.

Although state law only requires that concentrations be a minimum of twelve units, some SSU departments have designated concentrations somewhat in excess of that number. All of these concentrations have been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Students may begin work on a concentration at any point in their academic careers, but they should be careful that study for concentrations completed at other institutions include only courses designated as being equivalent to SSU concentration courses. (Check with the SSU department offering the concentration or the articulation office at your community college to be sure.) No more than two courses may be applied from other institutions. (Exception: Art)

No Liberal Studies courses may substitute in the concentrations.
