HUTCHINS SCHOOL OF LIBERAL STUDIES

Sonoma State University

SENIOR PROJECT GUIDELINES

A Senior Project is required of all Liberal Studies majors not completing the Multiple Subject Waiver program. In consultation with a faculty advisor, students will select an appropriate option from the following list. Normally, the option should be selected in the semester prior to the preparation of the project.

  • An essay expressing in intellectual terms (e.g. philosophical, historical) what and how the student has learned in the Hutchins School.
  • An individual or group legacy to Hutchins. This might be in the form of a fully developed course proposal, a new curriculum, an artistic or creative expression, or other work in this vein.
  • A study plan that the student would like to pursue in some area not previously addressed in the student's learning.
  • A research or creative project that the student deems a capstone experience.
  • Organizing and teaching a student-initiated course.
