Software Update Services
As a residential student, you must keep your computer up-to-date and secure. Here are some easy options for Windows.
Windows Users
You have your choice of two easy-to-use services.
Microsoft Software Update Services Server (SUS)
This service works only on Windows 2000 and Windows XP devices. When Microsoft makes new critical security updates available, they are downloaded to our local server which in turn automatically distributes them to your computer. You will receive a pop-up message asking whether you would like to complete the installation. If you click yes the installation will finish. To set up your computer to use this service, click on the appropriate link below:
- Running Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or later, or Windows XP Service Pack 1 or later? Click here to add SUS to your PC.
- Running any other version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP? Click here to add the SUS client to your PC first.
If you decide that you would rather use Microsoft's Windows Update service instead, click on the link below to remove the SSU Microsoft Software Update Service from your computer:
- Click here to remove the SUS script from your PC.
Configuring Windows Automatic Update
This method lets you connect your computer directly to Microsoft and download all the latest updates and patches. Once set up, Windows will remind you when there are new operating system updates available.
Select your operating system from the list below for instructions on how to configure Windows Automatic Update.
