McAfee Installation Instructions for Windows

The Sonoma State IT Department offers virus protection for Windows 2000/XP PCs for students on campus.

  1. Download the McAfee VirusScan for Windows installation file.
  2. Double-Click on the file. A black screen will pop up; it will read "Installing McAfee VirusScan 8.5i...". This step may take up to 20 minutes, with no visible change on the screen.
  3. After the installation has completed, restart your computer.

Useage Instructions

  1. VirusScan will run in the backround. There will be a small shield icon in the taskbar (next to the clock in the lower-right hand corner).
  2. To manually initiate a scan, click on Start --> Programs --> McAfee --> On Demand Scan.
