Class Email in WebCT
WebCT Email is an alternative to using class mailing lists. A WebCT course is automatically created for every official university course and populated with the enrolled students. All that needs to be done is to add the Email tool to the course - a matter of a few clicks.
The WebCT Email tool is a web-based email interface that allows instructors and students to send WebCT email to each other. WebCT email must be accessed within WebCT - mail is not forwarded to outside email accounts. This results in a few advantages that many instructors like.
- Email from the WebCT course doesn't get mixed in with other course, university or personal email.
- Instructors and students don't have to keep track of all the students email addresses.
- Instructors don't have to create or maintain a separate mailing list.
- WebCT student enrollment is updated nightly - instructors don't need to worry about maintaining a class list, adding new students or deleting dropped students.
- Everyone in the course uses the same tool to send and receive email - resulting in easier technical troubleshooting when students run into problems.
- As more courses use WebCT, more students are familiar with how to use it - resulting in less technical training and troubleshooting for instructors.
