How to Access Your E-mail using Eudora in OS 9

  1. Before you can configure Eudora, you must set up a "Keychain".
    1. Click on the "Apple" in the top left of the screen, select "Control Panels" and click on "Keychain Access".
    2. When it prompts you with the "Do you want to use the system keychain?" click the "Yes" button.
    3. When it prompts you with the "Do you want to set up a Keychain, to store your passwords and certificates" click the "Create" button.
    4. For "Name" enter your "Seawolf ID" into the box.
    5. For "Password" enter your "Seawolf Password" into the box. Note - It is very important that you remember the keychain password you assign, as you may not be able to make changes later without it!
    6. Click the "OK" button.
  2. Launch the Eudora application.
  3. If it prompts you with the "Do you want to use the system keychain?" click the "Yes" button.

  5. If it prompts you with the "Welcome to Eudora!" click the "Ok" button.

  7. If it prompts you with the "Eudora junk mail plug-ins have been disabled" click the "Ok" button.

  9. If it prompts you with the "Would you like to import settings?" click the "No" button.

  11. The Settings window should open automatically, if not click on "Special" from the top menu and select "Settings".
  12. Settings:
    1. Click on the "Getting Started" tab on the left menu:
      1. For "Username:" enter your "Seawolf ID" into the box.
      2. For "Mail Server:" enter in "mail.sonoma.edu" into the box with out the quotes.
      3. For "Real Name:" enter your name (e.g. John Smith) into the box as you would like it to appear when you send people messages.
      4. For "SMTP Server:" enter in "smtps.sonoma.edu" into the box with out the quotes.
      5. For "Return Address:" enter your Sonoma e-mail address (i.e. first.last@sonoma.edu for Staff/Faculty or seawolfid@sonoma.edu for Students) into the box.

    Getting Started Window

    1. Click on the "Checking Mail" tab on the left menu:
      1. Verify that the "Username" and "Mail Server" fields are correct.
      2. For "Mail Protocol" select "IMAP" if you are Staff/Faculty or "POP3" if you are a Student.
      3. Uncheck the "Save Password" box.
      4. For "Check mail every (blank) minutes" make sure the box is checked and enter in "15" with out the quotes.

    1. Click on the "SSL" tab on the left menu:
      1. For "SSL for POP:" select "Required (Alternate Port)" from the drop-down menu.
      2. For "SSL for IMAP:" select "Required (Alternate Port)" from the drop-down menu.
      3. For "SSL for SMTP:" select "Required (Alternate Port)" from the drop-down menu.

    Checking Mail Window

    1. Click the "OK" button.
  13. Click on "File" from the top menu and select "Check Mail".
    1. When it prompts you for your "Password" enter in your "Seawolf Password".
    2. If it prompts you with the "Check Certificate" window click the "OK" button to add it to your keychain.
    3. If it prompts you with the "Could not get mailboxes from Server" click the "OK" button.
      1. Click on "File" from the top menu and select "Quit".
      2. Relaunch Eudora.
      3. When it prompts you for your "Password" enter in your "Seawolf Password".
  14. You are done!
