How to Access Your
E-mail using Mail in OS X
- Launch Mail (Eagle Stamp Icon) from your Dock.
- If the "Welcome to Mail" window comes up follow the directions
below, otherwise skip to Step 3.
- For "Full Name" enter your name (e.g. John Smith) into the box as you would like it to appear when you send people messages.
- For "E-mail Address" enter your Sonoma e-mail address (i.e. smithj@sonoma.edu for Staff/Faculty/Student) into the box.
- Click the "OK" button.

- If
it prompts you with the "Required Information Missing" windows,
click the "Ignore" button.


- If
it prompts you with the "Import Mailboxes" window, click
the "No" button.

- If
it prompts you with the "Would you like to see what's new?" window,
click the "No" button.

- Click on "Mail" from the top menu and select "Prefrences".
- Click on the "Accounts" button at the top of the screen.
- Click on the "Plus Sign (+)" button located at the bottom left corner.
- In the Accounts window, for "Account Type" select "IMAP" if you are Staff/Faculty or "POP" if you are a Student. For an explanation of the difference between the two and which one will be better for you, please contact the IT Helpdesk at 664-HELP.
- For "Description" enter in "SSU E-mail" with out the quotes.
- For "E-mail Address" enter your Sonoma e-mail address (i.e. smithj@sonoma.edu for Staff/Faculty/Student) into the box.
- For "Full Name" enter your name (e.g. John Smith) into the box as you would like it to appear when you send people messages.
- For "Incoming Mail Server" enter in "mail.sonoma.edu" into the box with out the quotes.
- For "Username" enter your "Seawolf ID" into the box.
- For "Password" enter in your "Seawolf Password".

- For "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" select "Add Server" From the drop-down menu.
- In the SMTP Server Options window, in "Outgoing Mail Server" enter "smtps.sonoma.edu" into the box with out the quotes.
- Check the box next to "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)".
- For "Authentication" select "Password" from the drop-down menu.
- For "Username" enter your "Seawolf ID" into the box.
- For "Password" enter in your "Seawolf Password".
- Click the "Ok" button.

- Back in the Accounts window, click on the "Advanced" tab at the top.
- Near the bottom check the box for "Use SSL".
Note - The number in the "Port" box to the left should change from 110 to 995 for POP3 and from 143 to 993 for IMAP.

- For IMAP Users Only: For "IMAP Path Prefix:" enter
in "INBOX" with out the quotes.

- Click the "(X)" button in the top left corner of the "Accounts" window.
- If it prompts you to "Save Changes" click the "Save" button.

- If it prompts you with the "Mail wants access to keychain [some name]" enter in your "Computer's Login Password".
- Click the "Ok" button.
- If it prompts you to "Save Changes" click the "Save" button.
- Click the "Get Mail" button to recieve your new messages.
Note: If it does not work, close the program and re-launch the application. - Once you are connected you should see folders appear below the Sent (paper airplane icon) and the Trash.
- Click on the Sent that looks like a normal folder, not the paper airplane icon.
- Click on the Mailbox menu and select "Use this Mailbox For.." and select "Sent".
You are done!
