Mac OS X Network Setup

  1. Pull down the Apple Menu (top left) and select System Preferences.
  2. Click on the Network icon. Next, pull down the Location pop-up menu and select Automatic.
  3. Pull down the Configure pop-up menu and select Built-in Ethernet.
  4. If the lock icon (bottom left) is locked, make sure that you click it and enter your password to unlock it. This will allow you to save the changes you make in the following steps.
  5. Click the TCP/IP tab, and within this tab, pull down the Configure pop-up menu and select Using DHCP.
  6. Enter "sonoma.edu" into the Search Domains field, leave everything else as is, and click the Save button.
  7. To test, simply run a TCP/IP client such as Internet Explorer or OmniWeb. If problems occur, double-check the TCP/IP settings.

Special Network Settings

Certain settings on your computer can also disrupt the network. Make sure your computer is configured according to the instructions below. Your roommates and those in the surrounding buildings will thank you!

  1. Pull down the Apple Menu (top left) and select System Preferences.
  2. Click on the Sharing icon.
  3. Click the Internet tab.
