Windows 98 & ME Network Setup

  1. Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop and select Properties.
  2. Double-click on the TCP/IP protocol. Select Obtain IP address automatically.

  3. Now click on the WINS Configuration tab. Select Disable WINS Resolution.

  4. Click on the DNS Configuration tab. Select Enable DNS. Enter your last name followed by your first initial into the Host field (there should be no spaces in your entry). Enter "sonoma.edu" into the Domain field.

  5. Click OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window. Click OK again to close the Network window. When prompted, do not restart your PC, as this may cause your machine to freeze. Instead, click No, close all applications, and then restart your PC through the Start menu using the Start | Shut Down | Restart method.
  6. To test, simply run a TCP/IP client such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. If problems occur, double-check the TCP/IP settings.
