Windows NT Network Setup

  1. Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop and select Properties.
  2. Click the Protocols tab. Next, double-click on TCP/IP Protocol.
  3. In the TCP/IP Properties window, select Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.

  4. Now click on the DNS tab. Enter your last name followed by your first initial into the Host Name field (there should be no spaces in your entry). Enter "sonoma.edu" into the Domain field.

  5. Now click on the WINS Address tab. Unselect Enable DNS for Windows Resolution.

  6. Click OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window. Click OK again to close the Network window. When prompted, do not restart your PC, as this may cause your machine to freeze. Instead, click No, close all applications, and then restart your PC using the Start | Shutdown | Restart method.
  7. To test, simply run a TCP/IP client such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. If problems occur, double-check the TCP/IP settings.
