Tech in the Residence Halls
Greater WiFi Access
SSU IT has answered the students’ demands for greater wireless access by installing 275+ Aruba access points that support the new 802.11n standard, as well as the older 802.11a and 802.11g standards. Residents should be able to receive wireless signal in all residential suites.
Our primary focus is on improving the performance and the stability of the wireless network in the Residence Halls. We have recently improved the wireless back haul infrastructure and upgraded the wireless controllers to increase the performance and reliability in all the Residence Halls. We will be rolling out a new secure, encrypted wireless network as an alternative to our open wireless during spring semester of 2013.
If you are having difficulty accessing the wireless network in your room, please follow the steps outlined in Getting Connected to Wireless.
McAfee VirusScan for Residence Hall Students
You must remove your existing anti-virus software before installing our version of McAfee VirusScan to avoid serious problems with your operating system. In the event that you have problems uninstalling Norton Antivirus, a removal tool is provided by Symantec. Please follow the instructions carefully.
This is a specially configured version of Antivirus that is specifically setup for use at Sonoma. It will automatically retrieve all current virus updates from our local antivirus server, and will do regular scans for viruses at least once a week.
