Getting Connected to Wireless -
Troubleshooting Guide
I can’t seem to get on the wireless network. What should I do?
- Does your device “see” one or both of the SSIDs (wireless networks) listed below?
- ResHall-WLAN
- SSUWLAN
- Turn on your device's wireless functionality.
- If your computer has a physical switch that turns the wireless radio on or off, please check that it is switched to the “on” position.
- If your device does not have a physical switch, please check your network card settings for the built-in wireless adapter.
- On a Mac, please check that the computer’s Airport is turned on.
- On a smartphone, please check the wifi settings are enabled.
- If you still can’t select the ResHall-WLAN, please contact the IT Help Desk.
I select the ResHall-WLAN, but nothing happens.
- Is your device leasing a Sonoma State University ip?
- Does your ip address start with “130.157”?
- Or, does it start with “10.” Or “172.16” or “192.168.” or “169.” Or “0.0.0.0”?
- Please enable it for DHCP.
Okay, I’ve selected the ResHall-WLAN and I have an ip address that begins with “130.157” but I still can’t get on the wireless network.
- When you start your favorite browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer) you should get our captive portal login page (see screenshot above).
- On the left-hand side of the page you need to fill in your seawolf user name and password. Once you submit those credentials, you should be connected to the Internet.
- If you type in your user name and password, submit it for the first time, you may get a splashscreen querying whether you want to accept the certificate. If you accept the certificate on this initial login, it will not query you again.
- If you are not able to login using your credentials, please contact the IT Help Desk and open a wireless network ticket.
