How do I add a PowerPoint presentation to WebCT?

Instructors have several options for showing a Power Point presentation in WebCT.

No matter which option you choose, you should first follow the instructions for Building an Accessible Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation.

Also, use LecShare or LecShare Pro to make your PowerPoint accessible, save if a variety of formats, record narration and create captions. For information about features and how to get a copy of LecShare or LecShare Pro, see Accessible PowerPoint with LecShare (Seawolf ID required).

  1. Saving the presentation as a PDF.

Advantages : The students do not need PowerPoint on their computers to view the files. Students can print right from the PDF window, including printing multiple sheets per page. Instructors can offer several PDF formats with notes, handouts, or slideviewer.

Disadvantages: Students must have Acrobat Reader installed (most do). Audio and video and animations are not included in PDF files.

  1. Converting the presentation to HTML - using the Save As Web Page command in Powerpoint.

Advantages: Quicker loading for students, can save with your notes for students to read.

Disadvantages: Some formatting changes occur in process. Web page format is frame-based and therefore not web-friendly in all browsers.

  2. Posting the .ppt  file in WebCT

Advantages: Students will be able to edit the downloaded PowerPoint presentations.

Disadvantages: This requires all students have Power Point on their computers. Not all do. The PowerPoint presentation could be edited by students.
