How do I use WebDav in Dreamweaver?

Setting up a Dreamweaver site definition is a way to organize all the files associated with a website. The site definition is where you tell Dreamweaver where you keep your local files, where your files will be on the web server, and how to connect to the server to upload and download files. The site definition will also keep track of the way your files link together, and update those links when you change filenames or move files from one folder to another.
The following directions are for setting up a new site for either www.sonoma.edu or www.students.sonoma.edu. Other servers will require different steps.
To create a new site:

1. Pull down the Site menu and select Manage Sites. The Manage Sites dialog box appears.

Note: If you don’t have any Dreamweaver site defined, then the site definition dialog box appears and you can skip the next step.

2. Click the New button, then select Site. The Site Definition dialog box appears.

3. Click the Advanced tab.

Advanced Tab

The Advanced tab view shows the Local Info category options.

4. Click in the Site Name field and type the name of your site.

This is just a handy label for your site in Dreamweaver. It does not show up on your website. It does not need to match anything on the server. “My Website,” “Nursing 508” and “Bob’s web stuff” are all valid names.

5. Next to the Local Root Folder field, click the folder icon.

A new window appears where you can navigate the folders of your computer. Select the existing folder on your computer where you will store your web files, or create a new folder.

6. Once you have selected a folder, click OK or Select to return to the Site Definition window.

7. Click Remote Info in the Category list.
The Remote Info category options will be displayed. The Remote Info window is where you tell Dreamweaver how you want to connect to the server and where your website is on the server.

8. Pull down the Access menu and select WebDAV.

12. Copy the URL  from the folder path field and paste it in the URL field.

After entering the web account username and password, click on test.

13. Once the connection is successful, Dreamweaver will examine any files you might already have in your local web folder and build a cache file. Once that is completed, Dreamweaver returns to the document editing view. You’re now ready to edit files, or connect to the server to upload or download.
