Q. I want to put up web pages. How do I begin?
A.First make sure you have the necessary skills, knowledge and resources.
- You should have content that you want to put on the web.
- You should understand the basics about how browsers, web servers and web pages work.
- You should be familiar with the legal requirments for SSU web pages. For example, did you know that all web pages for university departments, programs and courses must meet web accessibility standards?
- You should understand how file directories and filenames determine the URI of a page or other file on the web.
- You should be familiar with the software applications you'll need to create your pages. These might include Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, and other many applications.
- You should be familiar with testing and validation tools to make sure users will be able to access your site reliably.
- You should have the time and resources need to design, develop, test, publish and maintain your site. If you don't, consider hiring someone who does.
OK, maybe that seems a little daunting. But you want to build a good website, right?
