Training
One of the primary goals of the IT Web Office is to help campus web authors gain self-suffiency. Whenever feasible, the Web Office will teach clients how to solve a problem rather than fixing the problem ourselves.
The Web Office provides limited training to current SSU faculty, staff and students. The Web Office does not provide training to students or employees from other schools or universities, or other people not related to the university, including relatives of current SSU faculty, staff and students.
Workshops
During Fall and Spring semester, the Web Office provides web training workshops. Topics change from semester to semester. These are open to current SSU faculty, staff and students. See the IT Training Calendar for current schedule.
- Introduction to Dreamweaver
- Web Accessibility
- WebCT course design
- Other topics in association with the CTPD and Library
Check the Web Office Training Calendar (Seawolf login required) for current offerings and schedule.
One-on-One Training
Personal one-on-one training in use of WebCT and Dreamweaver is available to faculty and staff for instructional or departmental projects. Such training is available only when Web Office staff time permits, and by advance appointment only. Such training is limited to orientations of Dreamweaver or WebCT, how to do a specific task, or use a specific tool or feature. Personal training is not intended to help with personal projects unrelated to university instruction or business. Ongoing one-on-one training is not available.
WebCT Class Orientations
Web Office staff or student assistants can provide an in-class orientation of WebCT for an entire class. Topics covered include:
- Logging into WebCT
- Orientation to myWebCT
- WebCT basics – how to navigate in WebCT, how to post a discussion board message
- Brief Q&A
- Tips for avoiding technical problems
Faculty must request a WebCT Class Orientation at least two weeks in advance, and are confirmed based on Web Office staff and student availability.
WebCT Class Orientations are most effective when scheduled in computer lab or tech classroom. Instructor is responsible for scheduling the lab in accordance with IT Lab procedures. If a lab is not available and the class doesn't meet in a Tech Classroom, contact Media Services and request a computer and data projector delivery.
