Network Security and Communications Services (NSCS)
Position
Under the supervision of the Director of NSCS, the incumbent supports the campus network infrastructure of firewalls, intrusion detection devices, load balancers, routers, switches, ip telephony, ip video, and network-enabling services. As a key member of the NSCS team, incumbent will lead the design and implementation of network infrastructure improvements to take advantage of emerging technologies and/or address changing requirements. Incumbent will configure and troubleshoot campus switches, routers, wireless controllers and access points, load balancers, vpn concentrators, firewalls, network-based intrusion detection systems, network security features, and management applications. Incumbent will also implement, test, and manage production network and telephony environments. Incumbent will monitor network systems to optimize performance and to initiate avoidance actions for potential system failures. Incumbent will diagnose and correct complex network/voice problems and failures which may require responding to major outages outside of business hours. The incumbent will configure and monitor router/switch access control lists, firewall rules, and intrusion detection systems; secure network resources from inappropriate access; and react to network security and performance alarms/logs. Incumbent will provide project coordination/lead functions for projects assigned to NSCS; act as a technical liaison with vendors; and create and update network documentation. Position requires occasional travel, including by car and airplane and may require occasional work outside normal campus business hours.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related technical field and a minimum of eight years of recent hands-on technical experience configuring and troubleshooting TCP/IP switching/routing, lightweight wireless, load balancers, access lists, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems. Additional experience beyond the minimum eight years that demonstrates acquisition and successful application of the skills, knowledge, and abilities identified above may be substituted for the education on a year-by-year basis. Requires in-depth knowledge of command line configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco IOS, Juniper ScreenOS, and Aruba Mobility Controllers. Demonstrated hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Citrix Netscaler load balancers, Aruba/Airwave Management Suite, Juniper Network Security Manager required. The selected candidate’s work history must include operations and troubleshooting experience with routed IP networks, Layer 2/3 switches, advanced router security features, firewalls, LAN/WAN networking hardware and protocols. Must have hands-on experience using packet capture tools to diagnose and solve wired and wireless performance issues. Knowledge of network management applications that leverage netflow, SNMP, and syslog is required. Requires in-depth knowledge of network based attacks, network device vulnerability, and vulnerability management on network devices. Solid understanding of designing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting VoIP (for example Avaya or Cisco) is preferred. PERL script skills are a plus. The successful candidate must provide customers from varied backgrounds with a superior level of support; be able to resolve problems independently, but also use professional judgment to utilize available resources as needed; demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills that foster collaborative communication with both technical and non-technical personnel; be a professional and positive team player willing to do what it takes for the team and the client; meet project deadlines consistently and on-time; demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills; and ability to work with and contribute to a technical team environment is critical to this position. Requires the physical ability to climb ladders, lift, carry, or otherwise move and position equipment weighing up to 50 lbs while installing and maintaining systems; sometimes work in tight and confined spaces; frequently stand and walk, reach with hands and arms, use fingers, stoop, and kneel.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $4,314 to $8,831 a month. Starting salary placement will not exceed $6,680 a month depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
