Head Softball Coach

Position

Reporting to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Head Softball Coach has responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing integrated programs related to the Women’s Softball Team.  This includes activities related to coaching, recruiting, and cultivating student-athletes; fundraising and development; compliance with Title IX regulations and NCAA and CCAA requirements; and, maintaining positive community relations.  In addition, the Head Softball Coach acts as a representative of the Sonoma State University Intercollegiate Athletic program and is expected to support program objectives and provide a positive experience for the student athlete.   Responsibilities include developing and implementing individual pre-season conditioning (fall) and post-season conditioning (summer) programs for student-athletes including regular workouts, weight training, and student-athlete conditioning;  attending all team games and practices; working with team during the off-season per NCAA regulations; preparing daily practices during season including scheduling facility time and planning the practice schedule; assuring that student-athletes have a working knowledge of departmental rules and regulations, CCAA policies and NCAA rules and regulations; developing and implementing team strategies which includes student-athlete assignment, and defensive and offensive tactics; and supporting student-athletes by listening and eliciting needs, serving as mentor and counselor, and working to effectively solve problems and provide encouragement.  The incumbent develops a written recruitment strategy for recruiting prospective student-athletes, engages in recruiting and scouting during the season and in post-season and evaluates prospective student athletes (junior college and high school) by attending regional and state championship games.  Incumbent works actively to generate revenue by supporting all departmental fundraising activities and by personally participating in at least three to four key fundraising activities, and maintains positive community relations by providing clinics and performing community services in conjunction with team activities. The incumbent serves as a key resource and responds to all matters related to the Women’s Softball Team. This position entails a heavy workload with both administrative and field duties, as well as travel commitments with recruiting and regular season away contests.  For more information about the Seawolves, see http://sonomaseawolves.com/

Qualifications

An undergraduate degree from an accredited four year university is required, and a master’s degree preferred.  The position requires a minimum of three years experience as a Head Coach and/or Assistant Coach at the high school or club level, with two or four year intercollegiate level preferred; knowledge of NCAA and CCAA rules and regulations, demonstrated skills at promoting positive personal relations with student-athletes, faculty and staff,  motivating student-athletes towards athletic and academic success, and demonstrated commitment to diversity; demonstrated fund raising experience preferred, good organizational and communication skills, good computer skills, and a sound technical knowledge of the game of softball.  Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and a willingness to respect the mission and values of the university.

Salary and Benefits
