General Information
University Support & Preparation Services at Sonoma State University is made up of the Upward Bound Sonoma County, Upward Bound Math & Science, Upward Bound—North, and Academic Talent Search Programs. All are dedicated to assuring that low-income middle school and high school students are academically and motivationally prepared to attend college. These programs are highly successful pre-collegiate programs that provide participants with rigorous academic instruction, individual and group tutoring, career education, self-concept development, college placement and social/cultural activities. Position
Working to uphold the University Support & Preparation Services’ mission and under general direction from the Director of Upward Bound Programs, Saturday Academy Instructors will teach two to four enrichment courses to high school students in one or more of the following subject areas: math through pre-calculus, laboratory science, composition, literature, Spanish, computer technology, SAT/ACT preparation, study/life skills, and/or interdisciplinary electives. Instructors will develop and implement class lessons for 15 Saturdays throughout the school year (9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/24, 10/31, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 1/23, 1/30, 2/20, 2/27, 3/13, 4/10, 4/17.) Instruction will consist of two to four class periods per day, approximately 75 minutes each, from ~8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In addition, all instructors will attend orientation, planning, training, and staff meetings.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. A BA/S with a teaching credential and computer literacy is preferred. Expertise in at least one academic or "elective" content area; one-year experience teaching middle or high school students; and the ability to develop and implement curriculum in accordance with state standards are required. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of student-centered instructional methodologies; sensitivity to the needs and characteristics of low-income and potential first-generation college students; the ability to facilitate academic and motivational development for those students; and the ability to relate well to multi-cultural students and staff. A minimum of two classes is required.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is from $1,680 to $4,040 for the Saturday Academy school year. Salary is determined by professional certificate and the number of courses assigned. This is a temporary, part-time position. This position will not be extended beyond June 30, 2010, and does not provide for credit toward permanent status or eligibility for benefits.
