Position

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for supporting the intercollegiate athletics program and the Head Athletic Trainer in the supervision and administration of medical care of approximately 300 student-athletes covering 13 intercollegiate teams, eight women's teams and five men's teams.  The incumbent will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with all aspects of student-athlete health care including athletic training room supervision; recognition, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; coverage of practice and games including some travel; athletic training room administrative responsibilities during the summer and other duties as assigned by the head athletic trainer; facilitating yearly physical exams/screenings in cooperation with team physicians and the Student Health Center; providing emergency injury care; evaluation, treatment and the design/administration of rehabilitation for return to intercollegiate activity; performing pre-practice/game stretching, padding and wrapping techniques; maintaining complete medical file information on individual student-athletes from injury through treatment and rehabilitation, to clearance for return to activity; communicating or directing the daily status of injured student-athletes to athletic training staff, coaches, administrators, and the team physicians as needed; administering or providing supervision at athletic contests; providing counseling and appropriate injury and medical referral; supervising and scheduling graduate assistant athletic trainers; supervising schedule and educating student first responders in the training room, practice, and game venues; assisting in maintaining annual overall insurance costs and claims, and in maintaining individual student-athlete medical insurance records; processing individual student-athlete medical claims; assist in managing athletic training room operational budget; overseeing care and maintenance of all equipment; administrating and executing blood-bourne pathogen safety procedures and proper disposal of waste; and inspecting and recommending all safety precautions for all athletic facilities and equipment.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree (master's preferred), NATABOC Certification, current CPR and AED certification and two years full-time intercollegiate athletic training experience.  Incumbent must possess in depth knowledge regarding the care and prevention of athletic injuries; excellent organizational and communication skills; and demonstrated experience regarding the supervision of athletic training facility staff members and athletic training facilities for athletic health care, injury record management, administration of athletic pre-participation physicals, inventory control and supplies management, preventive recognition of athletic injuries and illnesses, designing individualized rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries, practice and game coverage, working with a team physician, and working with the referral of athletes to allied health medical professionals.  Must possess the ability to demonstrate the leadership, organizational, and administrative skills involved in coordinating an athletic training and sports medicine program; effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries; use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries; determine the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals; recognize life threatening situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid; use a computer to perform medical, insurance and other recordkeeping functions; and work in an environment with competing priorities. In addition, incumbents must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and to serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians and other health professionals.  Flexible schedule with the understanding that night and weekend work is required.

Salary and Benefits
