Position

Reporting to the Dean, the Administrative Manager is responsible for the day-to-day business and academic operations of the School of Social Sciences.  The incumbent has leadership responsibility for the School’s staff, including performance management, providing appropriate development activities, and attracting and retaining quality staff members.  Directs budget development, decisions, control and analysis, and strategic/collaborative planning of budgetary goals/priorities.  As a member of the Executive Team, the incumbent participates in strategic planning and management processes in support of School operations.  Works with the Dean, Department Chairs, School Directors & Program Coordinators to identify performance goals, allocate resources, create measurement and assess results in support of the goals of the School. Assumes responsibility for the school’s business functions including finance, budget, registration, procurement, automation and customer service.  Leads change efforts including making operational efficiency and stakeholder service improvements.  Provides leadership and acts on behalf of the Dean in the absence of the Dean.  Directs special projects and organizational development activities for the Dean.  Represents the School of Social Science and SSU both internally and externally on committees and task forces, and at meetings and conferences. Other duties as assisgned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and coursework which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities, including leadership, business and public administration, accounting, planning, fiscal management, statistics, supervision and management or closely related courses which provide such an opportunity. The equivalent of five years of progressively responsible administrative management and technical experience, preferably in higher education or complex academic work environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required.  Experience working with individuals of a diverse background and the proven ability to represent the School to both the campus and outside community in a professional manner at all times are required.    Successful leadership and direct supervisory experience of a diverse group and prior fiscal responsibility for developing and managing budgets are required.  The successful candidate must possess a high level of proficiency with computers, particularly Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and databases, and the ability to learn new programs quickly; experience and/or education that demonstrate professional judgment, initiative, creativity, flexibility, problem solving skills; and the ability to function independently and as team member are essential.  Requires the ability to develop and implement plans for effective management and analysis of programs and services; strong organizational and administrative skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively initiate and manage change; a proven ability to interpret, evaluate, develop, and implement policies and procedures; and a high level of analytical skills and sound judgment.  In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both in written and oral form; problem-solving skills with the ability to understand the impact from a broad perspective; strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a collaborative working relationships with administration, staff, faculty, students, and the community; and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range is $65,000 to $69,000 annually.  The Administrative Manager is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.
