Student Services Professional III
Center for Student Leadership, Involvement and Service (CSLIS)
Position
Under the general supervision of the Director, Center for Student Leadership, Involvement and Service (CSLIS), the Campus Life Advisor (CLA) performs complex Student Services professional work by providing comprehensive advising and leadership services to student organizations, and sororities and fraternities. Serve as the primary advisor in the support and direction to the Greek letter organizations; serve as advisor to Panhellenic, Inter-fraternity Council, Multi-Cultural Greek Council and Order of Omega; meet regularly with Greek Presidents and offer new member training and organizational leadership training programs; serve in an advisory capacity to SSU’s student organizations providing direction and advising in organizational, leadership, program development, risk management, membership recruitment, fundraising, and other club related issues; plan and implement programs in the areas of scholarship, leadership, risk management, and wellness issues for fraternity and sorority members; and provide resources and education to advisors, national officials and offices of the fraternity and sorority chapters. Oversee and advise Greek recruitment activities and continuous open bidding during the academic year in a manner consistent with university policy and national guidelines; this includes possessing an understanding of the release figure method of sorority bid matching and the facilitation and training of outstanding Rho Gamma recruitment guides. Create and maintain CSLIS published material; maintain ongoing communication with student organizations through newsletters and electronic communication; oversee data collection and database management for student organizations and CSLIS programs; develop, implement and provide oversight of student leadership development program, including annual leadership retreat and leadership recognition programs; make recommendations for hire, train, and direct student employees; mentor and support student employees in their various roles within CSLIS; interpret and implement University policies and procedures; evaluate and recommend policies and procedures for student clubs and organizations; plan, implement, and present educational materials at CSLIS initiated programs; provide support to the campus elections process and special University election referendum; research and initiate assessment activities; and serve as a campus liaison, and on campus-wide committees and advisory boards.
Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the social or behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job related field; including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in a related field; and the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible student services work experience. Master's degree in higher education administration or student affairs is preferred and may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Requires practical experience in a campus life setting working with diverse, multi-faceted student organizations, sororities and fraternities, and student centered health and wellness initiatives; general knowledge of the principles, policies, practices, and trends of the Student Services field and professional programs; thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; knowledge and experience working with student clubs, organizations, fraternities and sororities; knowledge and understanding of student development theory and student personnel administration; and general knowledge of individual counseling techniques. Requires ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action and use proper techniques to utilize when engaged with individuals in personal transactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of students, faculty, staff and the general public; advise students independently and in groups on complex student-related matters; demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations; work independently and collaboratively as a team member; set and follow boundaries working closely with student groups; initiative and resourcefulness in planning work and implementing long-range planning improvements; be flexible in working with multiple ideas and approaches; work in a rapidly changing environment where constructive feedback is encouraged; willingly learn new computer programs; and reason logically, evaluate data, make verbal, and written presentations. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other programs; and demonstrated conflict resolution and mediation skills. Strong ability to organize, prioritize and multitask in a timely manner and intermediate computer proficiency with MS office, database programs, internet and email. Requires the ability to occasionally work evening and weekend hours; acquire a CA Driver’s License; and the ability to travel away from campus for periods of up to five days.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $3,834 to $5,462 a month. Starting salary placement will not exceed the beginning of the range. This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
