Part-time, Temporary, Hourly Intermittent Position

Under the general direction of the CPA Production Manager, and working closely with Costume Director, the Costume Technician combines creative ingenuity, and technical knowledge of the practical experience in historical pattern drafting/draping for costumes, headdresses, footwear, and miscellaneous accessories. The incumbent will be responsible for training students and employees in the safe and proper procedures of construction skills on industrial equipment. The Costume Technician is responsible for assisting the Costume Director in the rental, maintenance, and storage of costume materials and finished costumes, creating fitting schedules, dyeing fabrics as needed, and advising the Costume Director as to student achievement and supplies needed.
Qualifications
Equivalent to one year of theatrical production experience in creating patterns and constructing historical costumes for stage productions; experience operating and maintaining costume shop equipment and materials required. In addition, 12 semester units of college course work in costume design and construction, art history, rendering or related fields, or equivalent professional training from a theatrical school is desired. The incumbent will possess a general knowledge of and ability with historical period costume designs, patterns, and the methods, materials, and industrial equipment utilized in the construction and reconstruction of costumes and related accessories; the ability to assist with fitting and tailoring of costumes. Experience with dyeing, leatherwork, mask making, armor making, basic make-up and wig application, millinery, and computer assisted design and drafting are desired. The Costume Technician must have the ability to assist in the instruction, training, and supervision of students and student employees and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and community members. The ability to effectively meet deadlines, with extreme fluctuations in workload. Work schedule may include evening and weekend hours. A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record are required.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $18.36 to $27.55 a month. Starting salary placement will not exceed the beginning of the range. This is an hourly intermittent, temporary, non-exempt position. Benefits include vacation, sick, and holiday time earned in relation to hours worked. This position does not provide for credit toward permanent status nor eligibility for benefits.
