Office Assistant
Administrative Support Assistant - Level II
Anthropological Studies Center
Temporary Position - 5 months
Position
Under the supervision of the Anthropological Studies Center (ASC) Business Manager, the Office Assistant performs a variety of tasks in support of ASC’s research projects, including receiving and directing inquiries; filing; word processing and data entry; preparing monthly payroll summaries and expense backups for billings; tracking and purchasing office and field supplies; maintaining administration and contract files; and assisting in the completion of administrative paperwork for staff. In addition, the Office Assistant provides administrative and logistical support to field-work crews, supervisors, and the Business Manager; maintains and tracks use of office and field equipment; and arranges field crew accommodations and car rentals.
Qualifications
A high school diploma and a minimum of two years clerical or administrative support are required or a combination of education and experience to be proficient at performing work assignments. Courses in Anthropology or a closely related discipline are preferred, but not required. Requires thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; basic arithmetic; and a working knowledge of database, MS Word and Excel software. In addition, the incumbent must have the ability to provide positive and effective receptionist skills and critical thinking skills to effectively interpret questions from callers to understand and accommodate their needs; explain policies clearly, and make appropriate referrals; plan and coordinate multiple tasks to meet changing priorities; possess strong organizational skills; and maintain confidentiality. The successful incumbent must demonstrate the ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software programs; work on detailed tasks with accuracy and speed; work well independently and as a team member; and to develop and maintain a good working relationship with staff, faculty, students, administration, and other community members.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $2004 to $3006 a month. Starting salary placement is not expected to exceed the beginning of the range. This position will be 32 hours a week, temporary, non-exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. Benefits include vacation, sick, and holiday time earned in relation to hours worked. This position does not provide for credit toward permanent status nor eligibility for benefits.
