Student Government Coordinator

Position
Under the general direction of the ASI Executive Director, the Student Government Coordinator, works with students and staff in a variety of functional areas including, student government, clubs and organizations, organizational marketing and campus wide programming. The coordinator will perform moderately complex Student Services professional work and will provide advising and support to the ASI Senate, ASI Senators, Directors and Officers, ASI standing committees and other functions of the ASI Student Government; support and provide services to student clubs and organizations; and provide support to the development, coordination and implementation of the campus wide events program. In all capacities the coordinator will work collaboratively with the other staff to coordinate and implement a comprehensive, purposeful set of educational programs. Responsible to carry out planning and assessment activities of specific programs as it relates to educational efficacy, outcome attainment and student satisfaction. Promotes the mission of the Associated Students, Inc. and of Sonoma State University (SSU); fosters an atmosphere for student learning development and autonomy; serves as the primary advisor to the ASI Senators in areas of student government and leadership, constituent contact, legislation and resolution writing, campus committees and issues facing the organization; serves as the primary advisor to the ASI Club Congress Board; in conjunction with the ASI Executive Director, advises the ASI Senate; plans, prepares and presents training(s), retreats and in-services for members of the ASI Senate and the ASI Club Congress; serves as the primary advisor to standing committees of the ASI Senate; interprets, communicates and reviews California State law, California State University policy and procedures, SSU policy and procedure and Associated Students, Inc. bylaws and policy; makes recommendations for hire, trains and directs administrative student employees; plans, prepares and presents training(s) and in-services for the leadership and members of chartered student organizations on utilizing ASI services and programs; coordinates overall marketing of the ASI and student government functions, including all electronic and print advertising and communication formats; works directly with SSU student clubs and organizations offering assistance and guidance in organizational and program development; ensure proper professional staffing and support is provided to student programming coordinators at all ASI sponsored events; conducts assessment and planning activities; collaborates with campus student life partners to develop and encourage and active and learning centered campus co-curriculum; and provides support to ASI administrative functions.
Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a one of the social or behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job related field and the equivalent of two years of progressively responsible experience in professional Student Services area of work. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities required for the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for year basis. A Master's degree in higher education administration or student affairs is strongly preferred and may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Requires the ability to secure a full working knowledge of practices and procedures of a university auxiliary and a public university; work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of students, faculty, staff and the general public; demonstrated ability to advise student leaders both independently and in groups; knowledge and experience working with students, student leaders, student governments, campus programming groups, student clubs and organizations; knowledge and experience in the training and preparation of student leaders, student employees, campus clubs and organizations; knowledge and experience in the booking, production and promotion of large public student events; demonstrated conflict resolution and mediation skills; intermediate computer proficiency with MS office, database programs, internet and email; demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication; demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other programs and/or service areas; knowledge and understanding of student development theory and student personnel administration; and strong ability to organize, prioritize and multitask in a timely manner. Requires the ability to assist students in planning and organizing complex and detailed campus wide activities and events; articulate the value of a strong, multi-faceted, learning centered co-curriculum to a mid-sized public four year university; assist students to utilize financial and accounting guidelines and procedures in the production of campus wide activities and events; oversee a portion of a budget; ability to set and follow boundaries in working closely with student groups; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work and implementing long-range planning improvements; be flexible in working with multiple ideas and approaches; reason logically, evaluate data, make verbal, and written presentations; assess and evaluate students in their development; adapt to change in the work environment; work in a rapidly changing environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged; quickly and willingly learn new computer programs; analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews; and recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; and the ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $3,519 to $5,002 a month. Starting salary placement will not exceed the beginning of the range. Starting salary placement will not exceed the beginning of the range. This is a full time, exempt position, year round. Benefits include extensive health, dental and vision care, and retirement system membership. This position does not constitute state employment.
