Facility / Playground Needs Classroom, Multi-use room, or outdoor blacktop
Lesson Objective (Psychomotor and/or Cognitive):

Students will practice motor skills and balance,

Teaching Hints: If done in the classroom, make sure that paths and aisles are cleared of backpacks, coats, books, etc. Safety is the number one priority.s
Description:

  1. Choose one student to be "It."
  2. "It" walks around the room/defined area with two chalkboard erasers in hand.
  3. "It" puts an eraser on another student’s desk (or near where they are sitting if outside of the classroom). Both students then place the erasers on their heads. The person who was just chosen tries to tag "It." Erasers must remain on top of their heads the whole time.
  4. "It" must circle the room without being tagged and then sit in the second student’s spot, keeping the eraser in place. If this is completed successfully, the second student becomes "It" and repeats steps 2 through 4.

Alternatives / Modifications

To involve more students in this game, divide students into groups of five or six and have them sit in circles in different areas of the room. Play the game in the same manner with one student in each group being "It".

Instead of balancing the eraser on their head, have students try balancing the eraser on their shoulder, back of their hand, on top of their shoe, etc.
